As per the the April 2020 issue of Zoosystematics and Evolution, a new species of green pit viper has been found in Arunachal Pradesh. The new species is the fifth variety of reptile to have been discovered in the State in a little more than year.
Trimeresurus salaza: The scientific name of this pit viper is Trimeresurus salazar which has been inspired by Salazar Slytherin, co-founder of J.K. Rowling’s fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This pit viper belongs to the genus Trimeresurus Lacépède.
