World’s largest carbon-capture plant Orca opens in Iceland


The world’s largest direct air carbon capture and storage plant has started operating near the Hellisheidi geothermal power plant in Iceland. It is run by Swiss company Climeworks.

  • The facility, called Orca and built by Swiss startup Climeworks AG, will suck CO2 out of the air.
  • The plant will capture 4,000 tons of CO2 a year, making it the largest direct-air capture facility in the world.
