The Birth Anniversary of India’s 11th President Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated under the auspices of the United Nations as World Students’ Day.
- To honour his efforts, in 2010, the United Nations Organisation (UNO) declared October 15 as World Students’ Day.
Theme
- The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace’.
- Dr Kalam, who was born in 1931 in Rameswaram, was a passionate and enthusiastic teacher whose interactions with students had endeared him to a whole generation.
- His sudden death in 2015 in Shillong also took place just after he had delivered a lecture in IIM there.
