The World Heritage Day 2021 will be celebrated with the them of “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures”.
- In 1982, ICOMOS established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, followed by UNESCO adoption during its 22nd General Conference. In many countries the day is celebrated as World Heritage Day.
- The day is promoted by ICOMOS globally.
- Together with ICOMOS, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre supports inclusive and diverse points of view in heritage identification, conservation and transmission to future generations.
- On this people across the globe are encouraged to visit to monuments and sites, and restoration works, possibly with free admission.
- This special day offers an opportunity to raise the public’s awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to its vulnerability.
