On the occasion of ‘International Day of Happiness’ on March 20, ‘World Happiness Report’ unveiled its 11th edition this year.
Key highlights
- Finland has maintained to retain the title of the happiest country in the world for the sixth consecutive year.
- Like in previous years, many of the same Nordic countries are in the top spots. Denmark is at number two, followed by Iceland at number three.
- Israel and New Zealand were the only two non-European countries to feature in the top 10 list.
- Israel climbed five spots from last year to secure fourth position.
- The World Happiness Report is published by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
- It ranks 146 countries on happiness which is, further, based on three preceding years’ data of their average life evaluations.
- The ranking uses six key factors to measure happiness — social support, income, health, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption.
India’s ranking
- India is ranked 126 on the list of 137 countries. It stayed below countries like Nepal, China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
- India remains below warn-torn countries Ukraine and Russia. India has improved nine positions from what it had ranked in 2022.
- The report shows that India had the highest number of lonely people among seven countries including- United States, Brazil, Egypt, France Indonesia and Mexico.
- India also recorded the lowest use of social media platforms (31%) among emerging economies and developing countries, whereas Leabnon stood highest at 85%.
