The second World Food Safety Day (WFSD) is being celebrated on 7 June 2020. The day is being celebrated with the theme of “Food safety, everyone’s business“.
According to the World Health Organisaiton, almost one in ten people in the world fall ill after eating contaminated food. When food is not safe, children cannot learn, adults cannot work. Human development cannot take place.
Safe food is critical to promoting health and ending hunger, two of the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Objective of the Food Safety Day
The objective of the day is to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.
Background
On 20 December 2018 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 73/250 proclaiming a World Food Safety Day.
Starting in 2019, every 7 June is a time to celebrate the myriad benefits of safe food.
