Winchcombe meteorite

The meteorite that fell on the UK’s Gloucestershire town of Winchcombe in February 2021 is going on public display at London’s Natural History Museum.

  • Quoting some scientists, the BBC says that it holds within it chemistry that existed at the formation of our Solar System 4.6 billion years ago.
  • The display meteorite looks like a small piece of half-burnt coal.

What are Meteoroids, meteors and meteorite?

  • According to the NASA, Meteoroids are objects in space that range in size from dust grains to small asteroids. These are like space rocks.
  • When meteoroids enter the Earth’s atmosphere they are called meteors.
  • If a meteoroid enters the Earth’s atmosphere and hits the ground, it is called a meteorite.
