The rare meteorological event-Cyclone Asna that originated in the Arabian sea has moved away from the Gujarat coast.
- The name Asna, which means “the one to be acknowledged or praised”, has been given by Pakistan.
- Cyclone Asna is a rare development. It formed over the Kutch coast in Gujarat and adjoining areas of Pakistan, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
- Cyclone Asna is a rare land-originating one in August. It emerged as a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, from where this system was fueled by a lot of moisture.
- From there, it traversed across central India and moved westwards to emerge from Kutch into the Arabian Sea as a cyclone on August 30.
- Thus, the Cyclone Asna, which developed as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on August 16, became e a cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea.
- Cyclone Asna is only the fourth cyclone to develop in the Arabian Sea in August since 1944. The previous these rare cyclones developed in 1944, 1964, and 1976.
