What is reverse Quarantine?

Why in the news: Government plans to implement reverse quarantine as soon as more lockdown measures are eased. Kerala is also planning to introduce “reverse quarantine” along with the present “track, trace and treatment” regime as part of a multi-pronged strategy to fight Covid-19.

What is Reverse Quarantine: Reverse quarantine is a practice of detaching the most vulnerable people, aged or people with co-morbidity conditions, from the rest and monitor their health indicators closely to protect them from infection. The government is working on it as part of its mutli pronged strategy against Covid 19.

Through this practice, in case of a community spread, it can isolate its large volume of grey population and check their mortality rate effectively unlike what occurred in some of the western countries.

According to expert opinion, only reverse quarantine is effective until half of the population recovers from COVID-19 and gains immunity or a vaccine or medicine is developed.
