The Chief Justice of India Justice N V Ramana recently wrote to the Law Minister that a “blueprint of the proposal to set up the National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation (NJIC) is in the final stages of preparation and will be shared with the Union Government shortly” (The Hindu).
What is National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation?
- The National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation (NJIC) is an ambitious plan by the CJI Ramana to build modern and self-sufficient judicial infrastructure across India.
- Under proposed the NJIC, comprehensive, self-contained, all-inclusive and modern court complexes will be built across India to augment judicial infrastructure. As per CJI, the poor judicial infrastructure is proving to be a major stumbling block in delivery of justice.
- Justice Ramana has also appealed to the Centre and states to cooperate and create “National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation” to cater to the need for judicial infrastructure in the country. Such a corporation will bring uniformity and standardisation required to revolutionise judicial infrastructure.
- Providing independent video conferencing facilities to all the courts and facilitating e-filing of documents were part of the same effort.
