Vijayanagara is a new district in the Karnataka with Hosapete as its headquarters. The Karnataka government on February 8, 2021 issued a notification demarcating boundaries of the newly-formed district.
- The new district was carved out from Ballari under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.
- With Vijayanagara, the state now has 31 districts.
- The district has been named after the capital of the Vijayanagar Empire.
- Vijayanagara is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage sites – Hampi and Virupaksha Temple.
