United Kingdom is planning for a “fully digital border”, including the introduction of U.S.-style electronic travel authorisation to pre-check travellers to Britain.
- The new system will allow security services to screen all travellers heading to the UK before they have even boarded a plane.
- It will also make it easier to ban high-risk foreign criminals from entering and leaving the country.
- As per the new system, European Union (EU) citizens could be charged a fee to visit the UK as part of a new scheme to tighten Britain’s border checks on countries which previously had freedom of movement.
- According to the UK Home Secretary Priti Patel, the new system will be unveiled on May 24, 2021.
