The Government of India plans to issue a 14-digit identification number to every plot of land in the country within a year.
- According to a parliamentary standing committee report submitted to the Lok Sabha in March 2021, the centre will subsequently integrate its land records database with revenue court records and bank records, as well as Aadhaar numbers on a voluntary basis.
- The Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) scheme has been launched in 10 States this year and will be rolled out across the country by March 2022, the Department of Land Resources told the Standing Committee on Rural Development.
- ULPIN would be a single and authoritative source of information for any land parcel or property which can be used by any organisation requiring land related information.
- In Oidsha, the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) was launched by Shri Ajay Tirkey, Secretary, Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Govt. of India(GoI) and Shri Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Govt. of Odisha on 24th March, 2020.
- Odisha is a pioneer state in the best practices pertaining to land records and was selected for piloting of Unique Land Parcel Identification Number(ULPIN).
