The Union Home Minister has designated the Kollam port in Kerala as an authorised Immigration Check Post (ICP) for entry and exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers.
- The MHA notification was issued under Rule 3 (b) of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950.
- The MHA had earlier informed a parliamentary panel that India has 31 authorised seaport ICPs and out of those 10 are under the direct control and management of the Bureau of Immigration, MHA.
- The remaining ICPs are controlled by State police agencies.
- The Bureau of Immigration ensures that uniform immigration processes are followed at all the designated ICPs especially those 10 which are operated by them.
