Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launched National Crop Insurance Portal’s digitized claim settlement module namely DigiClaim under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
About DigiClaim
- With the launch of the module, claims will be disbursed electronically, which will benefit the respective farmers of six states.
- Now, the automated claim settlement process will be an ongoing activity to ease all insured farmers’ lives and provide them with a sustainable financial flow and support.
- With the launch of a DigiClaim Module, insurance claims totaling Rs 1260.35 crore have been disbursed on March 23, 2023 to insured farmers in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana with the click of a button, and the process will continue as and when the claims are released.
About Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
- The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was launched on 18th February 2016 by Prime Minister at Sehore, Madhya Pradesh.
- Actuarial/bidded premium but uniform maximum premium of only 2 per cent, 1.5 per cent and 5 per cent to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops, Rabi Crops and Commercial/ horticultural crops respectively. Premium over and above these limits is shared by the Central and State Governments on 50:50 basis, except in the North-Eastern Region where it is 90:10.
- Risk coverage of crop cycle : pre-sowing to post-harvest losses.
- Recently introduced Weather Information and Network Data Systems (WINDS), Yield Estimation System based on Technology (YES-Tech), Collection of Real Time Observations and Photographs of Crops (CROPIC) are some of the key steps taken under the scheme to bring in more efficiency and transparency.
