Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2021

The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) on May 24 released the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2021.

Key Highlights

  • The travel and tourism development index assessed a total of 117 countries for the study.
  • The theme of this year’s Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) is “Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future”.
  • Japan tops the ranking, followed by the United States, Spain, France and Germany.
  • Other than the US, the top-10 scoring economies are high-income economies in Europe or Asia-Pacific. After top-ranking Japan, regional economies Australia and Singapore come in seventh and ninth, respectively.
  • India’s travel and tourism sector has shown “signs of recovery” and is the top performer in South Asia.
  • India grabbed the 54th spot in the overall rankings, down from 46th in 2019.
  • This year’s index consists of five subindexes, 17 pillars and 112 individual indicators. are at the top of the list.
  • On average, TTDI scores increased by just 0.1% between 2019 and 2021, with only 39 out of 117 economies covered by the index improving by more than 1.0%.
