Tillari declared as a conservation reserve

The Maharashtra government on June 23 declared the 29.53 sqkm Tillari forest area in the Dodamarg and Sawantwadi range in Sindhudurg district as a conservation reserve.

About Tillari conservation reserve

Tillari is 13th such reserve in the western ghats.

Maharashtra has 62 conservation reserves, of which 13 are in the western ghats.

It is in Dogamarg tehsil of the Sindhudurg district and it connects Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Mhadei sanctuary in Goa to Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary in Belagavi district in Karnataka.

It is home to tigers, leopards, elephants and much more.

Tillari conservation reserve is located near the border of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, connecting Mhadei sanctuary in Goa and Bhimgad in Karnataka.

What is Conservation Reserve?

Conservation reserve are protected areas which act as buffer zones to or connectors and migration corridors between established national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and reserved and protected forests.

Such areas are designated as conservation areas if they are uninhabited and completely owned by the Government of India but used for subsistence by communities if part of the lands are privately owned.
