Thaipusam festival

Shri K Palaniswami, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has declared government holiday on January 28, 2021 on account of Thaipusam festival.

  • The Thaipusam festival is celebrated by Tamils around the world on a day which marks god Murugan’s birthday and some believe it is also the day when goddess Parvati is supposed to have handed over a vel to her son Lord Murugan to kill a demon.
  • It is an important festival that is celebrated in Tamil Nadu and also in Kerala and foreign countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore and Malaysia.
