Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched ‘Meendum Manjappai’ scheme on December 23, 2021.
- The scheme aims to promote the usage of cloth bags by the general public to discourage plastic bags, which have become rampant in the State over the years.
- Mr. Stalin called upon the people to completely reduce its usage. He recalled how long ago yellow-coloured cloth bags were symbolic of auspicious occasion but eventually plastic bags replaced them.
- The Chief Minister Stalin also listed out the harmful effects of single-use plastic products and highlighted the need for replacing them with cloth bags.
