“Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know” wins Cannes’ La Cinef Award for Best Short film

“Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know,” has won the prestigious Cannes’ La Cinef Award for Best Short at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France.

  • It is a short film directed by Chidanand Naik, a student of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII),
  • The winner was officially announced on May 23, 2024, at the festival, where Naik received the award.
  • Mr. Naik’s 15-minute short film, inspired by a Kannada folktale, was picked from 2,263 entries for the competition from 555 film schools across the globe.
  • Mr. Naik is the second Indian to win the La Cinef award. In 2020, Ashmita Guha Neogi clinched the honour for her short film CatDog.
