“Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know,” has won the prestigious Cannes’ La Cinef Award for Best Short at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France.
- It is a short film directed by Chidanand Naik, a student of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII),
- The winner was officially announced on May 23, 2024, at the festival, where Naik received the award.
- Mr. Naik’s 15-minute short film, inspired by a Kannada folktale, was picked from 2,263 entries for the competition from 555 film schools across the globe.
- Mr. Naik is the second Indian to win the La Cinef award. In 2020, Ashmita Guha Neogi clinched the honour for her short film CatDog.
