Indian Army
According to the Indian Army, an avalanche hit a location about 4 km ahead of Sumna on Sumna- Rimkhim road in Uttarakhand, which is on the “Joshimath-Malari-Girthidobla-Sumna-Rimkhim axis”.
Chamoli
The incident comes two months after flash floods in Chamoli district in February 2021 left dozens dead.
The glacial burst in February 2021 led to the rising of water levels in the river Rishiganga, which washed away the Rishiganga small hydro project of 13.2 MW.
The flash flood had also affected the downstream hydro project of NTPC at Tapovan on the river Dhauliganga, which is a tributary of the river Alaknanda.
