Two new butterfly species have been discovered in Arunachal Pradesh. These two species are; Striped Hairstreak and Elusive Prince.

The Striped Hairstreak (Yamamotozephyrus kwangtugenesis) was first recorded by Japanese entomologists in Hainan province of China. It was located in Vijaynagar bordering Myanmar.

The Elusive Prince (Rohana tonkiniana) has a Vietnamese connection and was thought to be the more familiar Black Prince found in the Eastern Himalayas. It was found in Miao on the periphery of the Namdapha National Park.

The discovery was published in the April-June edition of the Bionotes journal.

With these two additions, India now has 1,327 butterfly species, up from 1,318 in 2015.
