Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju on November 2, 2002 virtually inaugurated Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) new Regional Centre in Zirakpur, Punjab.
- The centre will now act as one of the main SAI centres for the northern belt of India.
- The Zirakpur Regional Centre’s administrative block has been built by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and several other sporting facilities will be added soon.
About Sports Authority of India
- The Sports Authority of India (SAI) is a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982.
- It was set up as a Society registered of Societies Act, 1860 in pursuance of the Resolution No. 1-1/83/SAI dated 25th January 1984 of the Department of Sports, Govt. of India with the objective of promotion of Sports and Games as detailed in the Resolution.
