SAI Regional Centre inaugurated in Zirakpur

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju on November 2, 2002 virtually inaugurated Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) new Regional Centre in Zirakpur, Punjab.

  • The centre will now act as one of the main SAI centres for the northern belt of India.
  • The Zirakpur Regional Centre’s administrative block has been built by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and several other sporting facilities will be added soon.

About Sports Authority of India

  • The Sports Authority of India (SAI) is a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982.
  • It was set up as a Society registered of Societies Act, 1860 in pursuance of the Resolution No. 1-1/83/SAI dated 25th January 1984 of the Department of Sports, Govt. of India with the objective of promotion of Sports and Games as detailed in the Resolution.
