- Rafael Nadal of Spain won his 19th Grand Slam title after holding off Russian Daniil Medvedev’s exhilarating fightback in one of the greatest US Open finals. Spain’s Nadal won 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 against the fifth seed. HIs victory moves him within one of Swiss competitor Roger Federer’s all-time leading tally of men’s Grand Slam victories.
- Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu won the women’s singles title, defeating Serena Williams in the final, 6–3, 7–5, and becoming the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title. She is also the youngest major winner since Svetlana Kuznetsova here in 2004.
