Eleven scientists under 45 years of age have bagged the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in seven categories by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
- After a gap of twenty years, a scientist from Assam has bagged the prestigious award for his pioneering research on coal and energy.
- Dr. Saikia has made outstanding contributions on the formation of fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from Indian coal.

- Chemical sciences: Dr Kanishka Biswas and Dr T Govindaraju
- Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences: Dr Binoy Kumar Saikia
- Engineering sciences: Dr Debdeep Mukhopadhyay
- Mathematical sciences: Dr Anish Ghosh and Dr Saket Saurabh
- Medical sciences: Dr Jeemon Panniyammakal and Dr Rohit Srivastava
- Physical sciences: Dr Kanak Saha,
About Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award
- The award, instituted by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) India, in the name of its late founder-director Dr (Sir) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, carries a cash award of Rs five lakh.
- The prize is given to Indian scientists below the age of 45 for outstanding research in seven fields—Biology, Chemistry, Environment Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine and Physics.
