Seven Lighthouses projects approved by CACL during the last 5 years

According to the Minister of State for Shipping (I/C) Shri Mansukh Mandaviya , during the last 5 years, the Government of India installed 3 lighthouses along the coastline in 2014, namely: Achara Point in the state of Maharashtra, Rava Port in Andhra Pradesh, Kolta Plam in Andaman & Nicobar; and the 4th one at Vembar in Tamil Nadu in 2017.

Maintenance by DGLI

Shri Mandaviya informed the House that the work of maintenance of Lighthouses is carried out from the budget provisions under the revenue head of Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) as per the maintenance schedule and there is no state-wise allocation of funds.

Regarding the guidelines laid down by the government for lighthouses on the coastline, he further explained that the establishment of lighthouses is decided on the basis of traffic and need of ‘Aid-to-Navigation’ (AtoNs) in the proposed area on the recommendations of the Central Advisory Committee of Lighthouses (CACL) headed by Secretary (Shipping).As of now, there is no plan to install more lighthouses,added the minister.
