- The Institute of Bio-resource and Sustainable Development (IBSD) was opened up their state-of-the-art orchidarium in their research facility in Upper Shillong , in Meghalaya on June 3. IBSD is under national institute of Department of Biotechnology.
- One of its kind orchidarium, the first in the country was constructed within a span of three months after the institute was established last year.
- The orchidarium houses over 20 varieties of orchids which are found in Meghalaya and its neighbouring States.
- The orchidarium will educate public about citizen science which will help preserve the fragile eco-system.

- The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) although registered in April, 2001, under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, the regular activity of the Institute could be started only with the appointment of its first Director on 18th January, 2003 to achieve the following mission, goal and objectives.
