In his speech to the joint sitting of the United States Congress on June 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the “Samosa Caucus” in the House of Representatives.
- The name that is sometimes used to refer to the informal grouping of Indian-origin Americans in Congress.
- The term Samosa Caucus has been in use since at least 2018, and it is said to have been coined by Raja Krishnamoorthy, member of the US House of Representatives from Illinois’s 8th District.
- There are, at present, five US Representatives with Indian roots. A sixth, Vice President Harris, is the leader of the Senate. All are Democrats.
