The Prime Minister has extended greetings on the start of the Sammakka- Saralamma Medaram Jathara, one of the largest tribal festivals.
- The biennial tribal festival is the second-largest fair of India, after the Kumbh Mela, celebrated by the Koya tribe for four days.
- This year it was celebrated from 21st-24th February, 2024.
- The Jatara was declared a State Festival in 1996.
- Saralamma was the daughter of Sammakka. Her idol, according to the rituals, is installed in a temple at Kannepalli, a small village near Medaram (Mulugu district. Telangana).
