Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara festival 2020

The famous tribal festival Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara concluded on February 8, 2020.

Governors of Telangana and Himachal Pradesh Tamilisai Soundararajan and Bandaru Dattatreya and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao visited Medaram village in Mulugu district and offered prayers to the tribal deities at the Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara on February 7, 2020.

This year the Jatara was held from 5th February to 8th February 2020.

About the Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara

  • Sammakka Saralamma Jatara or Medaram Jatara is a tribal festival of honouring the goddesses celebrated in the state of Telangana, India.
  • The Jatra begins at Medaram in Tadvai Mandal in Mulugu district.
  • It commemorates the fight of a mother and daughter, Sammakka and Saralamma, with the reigning rulers of Kakatiya dynasty against an unjust law.
  • It is the being called the largest tribal religious congregation in the world.
  • This Jatara has been declared as State Festival during 1998.
