The Union Cabinet has approved the Revised Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) with a ₹3,400 crore outlay for 2021-26, aiming to enhance cattle productivity, improve milk production, and support dairy farmers.
Key Highlights of the Revised RGM
- Budget Boost: Additional ₹1,000 crore allocated.
- Focus on High-Genetic Merit (HGM) Livestock & Heifer Rearing.
- Two New Additions:
- 35% Capital Cost Assistance for Heifer Rearing Centres (to house 15,000 heifers).
- 3% Interest Subvention for farmers purchasing HGM IVF heifers via loans from milk unions, banks, and financial institutions.
Impact of RGM in the Last Decade
- Milk Production: 63.55% increase (2013-2024).
- Per Capita Milk Availability: From 307g/day (2013-14) → 471g/day (2023-24).
- Productivity Growth: 26.34% rise in the last 10 years.
Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP)
- AI at Farmers’ Doorstep – Free Artificial Insemination in 605 districts where AI coverage was below 50%.
