Gurugram-based wildlife photographer Rajeev Dasgupta got the first photographic evidence of the rare subspecies of male Koklass pheasant Pucrasia macrolopha meyeri near the Helmet top in the Walong forests, Arunachal Pradesh.
- The bird was identified with the golden ring near the it’s neck.
- This elusive bird species has been photographed for the first time in India.
- Dasgupta is now writing a paper on his experience of sighting the rare subspecies and hopes to get it published in Indian Birds or the Bombay Natural History Society Journal.
- Of the 1,293 bird species in India, over 900 are found in the Northeast parts of the country.
