Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan has been notified as the 52nd Tiger Reserve of India on May 16, 2022.
- The newly notified tiger reserve includes the tiger habitat between Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in the northeast and Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve on the southern side and facilitates dispersal of tigers from Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.
- The Minister said, the floristic diversity of this new tiger reserve makes it an important area for research and education.
- Mr. Yadav said, historic and cultural sites like Bhimlat, Ramgarh palace will encourage eco-tourism and provide employment opportunities to local communities.
- The Govt. of India had launched “Project Tiger” on 1st April 1973 to promote conservation of the tiger. Project Tiger has been the largest species conservation initiative of its kind in the world.
About Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve
- It will be the 4th Tiger reserve for the state after Ranthambore, Sariska, and Mukundra tiger reserves and 52nd for the nation.
- The Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary will extend support to the increasing number of tigers in Ranthambore.
- The Tigers will be shifted in the new Tiger reserve to stabilize the increasing fight between the tigers for the resources in Ranthambore.
- Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary acts as a cushion for the Ranthambore National Park and is spread over an area of 252 square kilometers.
- The Sanctuary has diverse biodiversity and one can spot wild animals like Indian wolf, leopard, golden jackal, chinkara striped hyena, sloth bear, and nilgai in the lush green forests of Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary.
About National Tiger Conservation Authority
- The NTCA was created to strengthen tiger conservation in the nation.
- It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change constituted under enabling provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended in 2006.
- ‘Project Tiger’ is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme that provides the required support for the conservation of the tiger in the country. The project is preventing the endangered tigers from getting extinct.
About National Park
- A National Park is a region that is set aside by a national government for the protection of the natural habitats of animals and plants.
- The boundaries are also set for a National Park. There are 104 National Parks in India which cover around 1.33% of the geographical area of the nation (National Wildlife Database, Dec. 2020).
