The US forces killed Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), in a drone strike at the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on January 3, 2020. Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was killed in the planned attack.
Soleimani was killed after the orders of US President Donald Trump. He was the commander of Quds Force, which is the overseas operations wing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and a US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation .

- The Quds Force is part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
- It was founded after Iran’s 1979 revolution and the Guard defends the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Run from Tehran, it is said that the Quds Force has developed ties with armed groups in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian territories.
