Indian Institute of Science(IISc) in Bengaluru emerged as the best higher education institution in India, ranking 155th globally in the latest edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) 2023.
- IISc has witnessed a massive jump of 31 positions in its rank in comparison to last year.
- The 19th edition of the ranking featured a total of 41 Indian universities.
- Overall, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the world’s top university for the 11th consecutive year. The University of Cambridge has risen to second place, while Stanford University remains third.
- The two other institutions that made it to the top 200 from India were the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay (IIT-B) and IIT-Delhi.
- While IIT-B secured 172ndrank globally, rising five places from last year, IIT-Delhi placed at 174th rank, up 11 places since last year.
- There are six parameters based on which the rankings are prepared. These parameters are — academic reputation (AR), employer reputation (ER), faculty-student ratio (FSR), citations per faculty (CpF), international faculty ratio and international students ratio.
