Pushkar Singh Dhami was chosen as the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on July 3, 2021. The 45-year-old Dhami is an MLA from Khatima Assembly constituency.
- Earlier, Tirath Singh Rawat had tendered his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya on July 2.
- Mr. Rawat was was required to be elected as a member of the Uttarakhand Assembly within six months of having taken oath as Chief Minister.
- But, under the Representation of the People Act, bypolls are not held for vacant seats if the tenure of the Assembly expires within a year.
