Punjab top performer in Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

Punjab’s achievement in fully utilizing its Rs 4,713 crore allocation under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) showcases its strong commitment to enhancing agricultural infrastructure. With this, Punjab ranks first in the country in implementing the scheme and has been rewarded with an additional Rs 2,337 crore allocation.

Key Highlights of the AIF Scheme

  • Launched: July 2020
  • Objective:
    • Provides medium to long-term financing for agriculture infrastructure projects at the post-harvest stage.
    • Initially focused on post-harvest management and processing at the primary level, now expanded to include integrated processing at the secondary level.
  • Benefits:
    • Credit guarantees and interest subvention to facilitate investment.
    • Open to farmers, agripreneurs, cooperatives, FPOs, start-ups, and public-private partnerships.
  • Integration with PM-KUSUM Scheme:
    • Component-A of PM-KUSUM can now be converged with AIF.
    • Encourages clean energy solutions in agriculture by allowing farmers, FPOs, cooperatives, and Panchayats to access funds for solar-powered agricultural infrastructure.
