Prime Minister dedicates longest railway platform in Karnataka’s Hubbali

The Prime Minister on March 12 dedicated to the nation the longest railway platform in the world at Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Station.

Key points

  • The station falls under the South Western Railway zone. On March 2, 2023, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized this as the longest railway platform globally.
  • The 1,507 metre long platform has been built at a cost of about Rs 20.1 crores.
  • In a bid to cope with the growing needs of Hubbali city and keeping in mind future demands, the railways have decided to construct three new platforms in addition to the existing five platforms.
  • Of these, platform number 8 measuring 1,507 m has earned the distinction as the longest railway platform in the world.

IIT Dharwad

  • The Prime Minister dedicated IIT Dharwad to the nation. The foundation stone for the institute was also laid by the Prime Minister in February 2019.
  • Developed at a cost of over Rs. 850 crores, the institute currently offers a 4-year B.Tech. programs, inter-disciplinary 5-year BS-MS program, M.Tech. and PhD programs.
