- The two hundred year-old Presidency University (till recently, Presidency College) Kolkata will launch its own museum on the occasion of its bicentenary.
- Through this museum university will showcase its history since its inception in 1817 as Hindu College in Kolkata.
- Hindu college was established by Raja Ram Mohan rai, David Hare, Radhakant dev etc in 1817.
- This British Government took over this college in 1855 and placed it in 1857 under the newly founded Calcutta University.
- The University museum will showcase rare documents such as the edition of the magazine of the (then) Presidency College, in which Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen published an article. The piece, ‘Bigyaponer Arthonity’ (Economics of Advertisement), was written when Dr. Sen was an economics student at the college.
- Jagadish Chandra Bose, physicist Satyendra Nath Bose and astrophysicist Meghnad Saha were the prominent alumni of this institution in 1869.
