Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 1, 2021 took the first shot of Covaxin, the Indian-researched and produced anti-COVID-19 vaccine (manufactured by Bharat Biotech) at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
- Sister P Niveda, from Puducherry, administered COVAXIN to Mr Modi. Sister P Niveda was assisted by Rosamma Anil, a nurse from Kerala.
- The Prime Minister was seen wearing a gamcha of Assam, which is symbolic of blessings of women from Assam.
