Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, 2021 handed over the indigenous main battle tank Arjun Mk-1A to the Army in a function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
- Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane received the model of the tank.
- The Arjun Mk-1A has been designed and developed by Chennai-based Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), a unit of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).
- Arjun Mark 1A has 71 major and user-driven upgrades that make it world-class and will immensely benefit the Indian Army. Features like increased mobility, fighting capabilities are added in the MK-1A.
- It is equipped with accurate and fast target acquisition capability during day and night and in all types of weather .
