Philippines to buy BrahMos missile system from India

  • The Philippines has approved a $374.96 mn contract for the purchase of shore-based anti-ship variant of the Brahmos missile from India. Secretary of National Defence of Philippines Delfin Lorenzana has signed the ‘Notice of award’ for the purchase.
  • The coastal defence regiment of the Philippine Marines will be the primary employer of this modern strategic defence capability of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
  • The Philippines would be the first country to purchase it. The deal involves three batteries, training for operators and maintainers as well as logistics support,
  • BrahMos is a cruise missile developed as a joint venture between India and Russia.
