The Defence Bio-Engineering & Electro Medical Laboratory (DEBEL), a Bengaluru-based DRDO lab, successfully conducted high-altitude trials of the Indigenous On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS)-based Integrated Life Support System (ILSS) for the LCA Tejas aircraft on March 4.
Key Features of the OBOGS-Based ILSS
- Self-Sustaining Oxygen Supply: Generates breathable oxygen in real-time, eliminating the need for traditional liquid oxygen cylinders.
- Greater Efficiency & Safety: Reduces reliance on ground-based oxygen refilling and enhances pilot safety during flight.
- Successful Flight Testing: Conducted on the LCA-Prototype Vehicle-3, developed by HAL and the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA).
System Components & Development
- Comprises 10 Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), including:
- Low-Pressure Breathing Regulator
- Backup Oxygen System (BOS)
- Emergency Oxygen System
- Oxygen Sensor & Anti-G Valve
- Manufactured by L&T as a Development cum Production Partner.
