Scientists have found the oldest animal known to have lived on land. The animal named Kampecaris obanensis was an inch-long critter similar to a millipede.
- Fossil imprints of Kampecaris obanensis was discovered from the island of Kerrera in Scotland.
- It have been radiometrically dated to around 425 million years ago, in the Silurian period.
- According to the researchers, the animal inhabited a lakeside environment and likely ate decomposing plants.
