Odisha has officially become the 34th state and union territory to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), which will operate in conjunction with the state’s existing Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY). This integration will provide enhanced health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family annually, with an additional ₹5 lakh allocated specifically for women members.
Key Highlights of AB PM-JAY:
- Launch: Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 23, 2018.
- Coverage:
- Provides health insurance of ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care.
- Covers 12.34 crore families, benefiting around 55 crore individuals.
- Eligibility: All family members of eligible households, irrespective of age.
- Special Provisions:
- Extended to include senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of income.
- Covers 37 lakh Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) along with their families.
- Achievements:
- Over 7.37 crore hospital admissions recorded, with 49% women beneficiaries.
- Ayushman Card: Beneficiaries can create their Ayushman card anytime using the Ayushman App, Common Service Centers (CSCs), or by visiting empanelled hospitals.
- Continuum of Care: Comprises two key components:
- Ayushman Arogya Mandir (previously AB-HWCs): Focused on health and wellness.
- AB PM-JAY: Ensures financial protection for hospitalizations.
