The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has barred North Korea from competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics schedule to be held in Beijing.
- North Koreas has been barred as part of its punishment for its “unilateral decision” to drop out of the Tokyo Games 2020.
- North Korea chose not to send its athletes to the Summer Games due to concerns its athletes could contract Covid-19 and bring the virus back into the impoverished nation.
- North Korea will not receive any assistance from the IOC during the period of suspension, and the IOC said North Korea will not get a share of the money earned from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as the country “did not contribute to the success of the Olympic Games.
- The 2022 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games is scheduled to take place from 4 to 20 February 2022, in Beijing.
