In this year’s Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, he eight Nordic-Baltic countries participated in it together as representatives of the Nordic-Baltic cooperation, the NB8.
- NB8 (Nordic – Baltic Eight) is an informal (non-institutionalized) regional co-operation format. It represents the governments of eight countries of the north: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
- They are linked geographically, and share deep historical, social, economic and cultural ties. Their advanced economies are outward-looking, innovation-driven, complementary and fully integrated into the world’s largest single market area, the European Common Market.
- Taken together, the size of the Nordic-Baltic economies would qualify not only for the G-20 but also the G-10.
- The format is unique as it includes both members and non-members of the EU (Norway and Iceland) and NATO (Finland and Sweden).
- In 2010, at the initiative of the Baltics, the Nordic and the Baltic Foreign ministers decided to establish a Nordic-Baltic “wise-men” group to look into ways to strengthen the Nordic-Baltic cooperation.
