The World Health Organization (WHO) has conferred the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) with the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024.
- NIMHANS director Pratima Murthy received the award at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva. NIMHANS Bengaluru is the country’s premier mental health institution.
- The Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion was established by WHO in 2019.
- The award recognises individuals, institutions and/or governmental or non-governmental organisations that have demonstrated remarkable contributions to health promotion.
