The Vamsadhara Water Disputes Tribunal (VWDT) has ruled in favour of construction of Neradi Barrage, which was wecomed by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
- AP Chief Minister said that the proposed project would be beneficial to both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
- The tribunal has directed Odisha to acquire the required 106 acres of land required for the barrage construction and to hand it over to AP within a year of the order.
- Neradi Barrage will have a right head sluice with a design capacity of 8,000 cusecs for meeting the requirements of AP and a left head sluice for Odisha.
- The cost of the proposed Neradi barrage will be borne by the two states on ayacut basis.
- On September 13, 2017, the VWDT issued an order permitting AP to construct the side weir and Neradi barrage under Section 5(2) of the ISRWD Act, 1956.

- Vamsadhara river originates in Kalahandi district of Odisha.
- The river flows 154 km in Odisha and then flows another 29 km along the common boundary between Odisha and AP and another 82 km in AP before joining the sea.
