The Liberian Registry has become the very first ship registry to sign onto the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change.
- The Neptune Declaration calls for seafarers to be designated as key workers and for cooperation to end the crew change crisis.
- In December 2020, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on International cooperation to address challenges faced by seafarers who are supporting global supply chains during the Covid19 pandemic.
- The Neptune Declaration urges the implementation of four main actions to address the crisis:
- Recognize seafarers as key workers and give them priority access to Covid-19 vaccines
- Establish and implement gold standard health protocols based on existing best practice
- Increase collaboration between ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes
- Ensure air connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers.
